A Norfolk County resident is out $140,000 after a computer scam.

Norfolk OPP were contacted by a concerned resident March 6th reporting that they had fallen victim to an online scam.

Back in January 2017, the victim had received a pop up notification saying that there was a virus on their computer that was compromising its function.

The victim proceeded to click the pop up, followed the instructions and signed a form indicating that the repairs worked. Between January 2017 and March 2019, several emails were exchanged and more access was granted to the victims computer.

Upon looking at recent bank statements, he realized his line of credit had been accessed and $140,000 was taken in total.

Police are urging people to ignore the pop up ads and never allow anyone access into your computer that you do not know.
