Whether you’re are hosting your first Thanksgiving or your tenth, it can feel a bit overwhelming. Here are some helpful tips to take the pressure off to pull off the perfect Thanksgiving meal for your family and friends!

 

Preparation is KEY…planning ahead will ensure you have no surprises.

–              Prepare meal menu

–              Make grocery list

–              Check with guests on any dietary restrictions or allergies

–              Consider any foods you can make ahead and store in the fridge or freezer

 

The Turkey plan…if this will be your first time cooking a turkey, do your research.  A quick GOOGLE search will provide you with the information you need.  For example how long it takes to thaw (if you are cooking from frozen( how long it takes to cook, depending on the number of lbs.   Ensuring you know the seasonings you want to use so that you have them on hand.  Some turkeys have defrosting/cooking instructions directly on the packaging.

 

Plan the guest arrival time…you may be tempted to have your guests arrive when the meal is ready.   However this could feel rushed and overwhelming as you are trying to finish dinner preparation while greeting guests. Consider having your guests arrive a bit earlier.

 

Special touches…you may want to plan your table settings and any décor ahead of time. Adding an extra TOUCH to the your Thanksgiving dinner.  If you have guests that are bringing children (or you have some of your own), you may want to try and cater to the kiddos.  You could consider fun a fun craft when they arrive, or something special at their place setting.

 

Helping hands…if your guests ask if they can help, let them!  Or if they ask if they can bring a dish, say YES!   These little helping moments will provide you with the help you need PLUS people love to be involved and contribute.

 

Thanksgiving leftover box….having some easy disposable take home containers handy (these can be purchased at the Dollar Store) will be a nice touch at the end of the evening for your guests, and VERY appreciated.
